It is a common occurrence for nursing students to be under a large amount of stress. Sang Dol notes many things which can cause students to be under immense pressure and stress: academic performance, change in the environment, change in food type, irregular diet, clinical challenges, economic problems, and self-expectations. Forensic nursing includes four different areas of practice: interpersonal violence, non-medical deputy medical examiners, correctional nursing, and sexual assault nurse examiner. Interpersonal violence nurses screen and assess patients to check for abuse. The patient will get a physical assessment and an interview. If abuse is suspected, the nurse will implement a plan to reduce the abuse and violence. Non-medical deputy medical examiners conduct medical examinations when a forensically trained physician is not available. The examiners are qualified to conduct examinations, collect evidence when necessary, and interview survivors about medical and social history of the deceased. Correctional nurses work with patients that are incarcerated. The facilities are built for safety rather than healthcare. Despite incarceration, patients still need medical attention for acute and chronic medical conditions. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) have an extra license after obtaining a license to be a registered nurse. SANEs can assess trauma and the mental state of the patient, treat, and testify in court if need be. The SANE uses the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (ADPIE) with a patient-centered approach to examine and interview a patient. Therefore, nurses are patient advocates. Speaking to the child and parents about medical complications from being obese as a child could lead to a drastic lifestyle change. Because a nurse was looking out for the child, it could change a life for the better. Removing a child from the home is not always the answer, but being educated about obesity and the consequences could be.
