Listening helps maintain our personal relationships and be able to take notes in class. It’s important to understand that listening involves more than just hearing words that are directed at us. I think I’m a good listener if the conversation is interested to me. When you listen to people talk it’s very important to nod your head and say “uhhuh” or “yes I understand”. Sometimes the people that are talking they would probably ask you a question about the situation and if you don’t know than you were probably not listening. In the United States we have people who come from different countries and backgrounds. When I meet people who have very heavy accents I’m always curious about their background and where there from. In some cultures I have learned some words or actions done by Americans can be offensive in other states. I remember when I lived in South Korea it was offensive to point with one finger. When giving direction you use four fingers and face sideways to point in South Korea. From this chapter I learned to better communicate with someone from a different cultures.
