It is important to take under consideration the company type, location and the organisational culture, when deciding to adopt a diverse workforce. As a matter of fact, depending on a company’s value, vision, people, place and history, it already can be determined whether an organisation would be able to support or not diversity in its workplace. In order to further analysis potential issues of cross cultural management in an organisation, and it’s role in the international business environment, we recur to the use of several frameworks. One among the most influential theories is the Hofstede’s five dimensions of culture framework, developed in 1980 by the Dutch social psychologist Greet Hofstede. His theory describes the “effects of a society’s culture on the values of its members, and how these values relate to behaviour using a structure derived from factor analysis”. In simpler words, Professor Geert Hofstede conducted one of the most comprehensive studies of how values in the workplace are influenced by culture. His model acknowledges the similarities and differences across cultures and explains the need for one to be open minded in order to fully comprehend what is different about the surrounding cultures.
