The national standard indicates that one should exercise at least three times a week for 60 minutes. The patient does not currently exercise and expresses that there is no time in her daily schedule. It was suggested that the patient take 15 minutes before going to bed to stress and relax. The following goal was developed with the patient. Goal: “Patient will walk around the neighbor three evenings a week.” The patient states this seems to be an attainable goal, since she does not have to spend time driving to the gym. Goal: “Patient promises to do deep breathing and stretching routine (at least 15 minutes) at the end of each day for a period of one month. The technique will also be employed if feeling overwhelmed and/or stressed throughout the day.”
Health Maintenance
The disease that the patient has to maintain is HTN. The patient is not currently do everything that can be done to maintain her HTN (Ahrq.gov, n.d.). Even though the patient has a BMI of 24 (within normal range), the patient still should lose weight. The goal for health maintenance ties into the goals for exercise and diet. Goal: “Patient will walks at least 3 evenings a week and increase potassium rich foods (potatoes, cantaloupe and yogurt) 3 times a week.”
Safety
The patient lives a relatively safe lifestyle. She does not participate in any high-risk activities. The only area in terms of safety would be bike riding. The patient does not currently wear a helmet when bike riding and has agreed on the following. Goal: “Patient will purchase and wear helmet when biking, this biking season and going forward.” The cost of helmets where researched and it is within the patients means to purchase
