Almost everybody is searching for a way to lose weight fast and millions of people have sought to do that through fad diets. The majority of these diets hold an elevated risk for harming an individual or their body. Lord Byron popularized one of the first known fad diets in the 1820s and it consisted of drinking apple cider vinegar with water. In the 1930’s the grapefruit diet was created which consisted of eating a grapefruit with every meal. Maria Callas, an opera singer, popularized a diet which involved digesting tapeworms in the mid-1950s. As listed above, there are numerous benefits to eating gluten, such as it’s source of protein, fiber, and iron. Paradoxically, cutting out gluten has multiple consequences. For example, a lack of vitamin B and an increase in bad gut bacteria. In addition, gluten has never been proven to cause or even be connected to weight loss. If weight loss does occur on this diet, it has most likely been caused by a decrease in the number of carbs a person consumes, not a decrease in gluten
