My decision to continue my education to receive a Masters in occupational therapy was decided two years ago when I had the opportunity to shadow occupational therapists in different fields. I was immediately able to see the demand and purpose for the field throughout all different age groups and settings and knew that this was a career I could truly make a difference. Firstly, the dedicated and passionate professors and fieldwork coordinators at NEIT have taught me the importance of education and leading by example. They continue to emphasize to us the importance of being an advocate and leader not only for our clients but also for the field of occupational therapy. For example, there have been times where we have had to advocate among healthcare colleagues and to insurance companies to keep clients in the hospital an extra day or to advocate to child services on the behalf of a child’s wellbeing. Therefore, one of the most important aspects in continuing my education is obtaining the skills and power to continue this essential leadership
