An Charlie who was born without his extremities but other wise was healthy. His family supports and encourages him to develop his independence and not let his condition stop him but find different way to do things. He condition does have some effect on his health with difficulty thermoregulating his body due to his lack of extremities.
Early childhood experiences influence coping skills, resistance to health problems and overall health and well-being for the rest of one’s life (Mikkonen & Raphael, 2010). Health child development is seen with both Charlie and Frank. Two very contrasting childhoods with Frank not having a father who had little patient for his son and sent him to an institution compared to Charlie whose family supports and helps to build his independence, and integrate him into society.
