In both books the main character is a young adult who soon comes to trust their group. Shortly after they become comfortable with their group they become idealistic and can begin to see a future where tyrants do not rule over them. Both of the main characters are intense and are a great help to the final goal. They both are the ones to kill the tyrant by figuring out their secret. They are in the moment, if something happens that they did not plan they deviate from the original plan and do things their own way. They are very intelligent and have skills that greatly help them with what their jobs in the group. These are traits that the both of the main characters share. While there are many similarities in these two books there are a few differences.
The differences in these books is that while there are extraordinary abilities/powers involved, the big difference is who has them and who knows they have them. In The Final Empire almost everyone in their group has powers/abilities and they are aware of what each other can do. In Steelheart most of the group does not have powers/abilities and the ones who have those powers.abilities have not told the others and they have to figure it out on their own. So while both books may have extraordinary abilities the difference is who has them and who knows about
