I chose to work on The Pillowcase Project to expound upon my interest of emergency preparedness and liked the idea of teaching the youth about local hazards/disasters and how to prepare if one may ensue. The Red Cross mission “prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors” (American Red Cross, 2016). Essentially, American Red Cross relies on the humanitarian spirit of volunteers and donors to service and fund people in their time need. Furthermore, with the emphasis on philanthropic acts ARC supports five lines of service: Disaster Services, Service to the Armed Forces, Health and Safety Services, Blood Services, and International Services and supports The Home Fire Campaign and The Pillowcase Project as two service projects (American Red Cross, …show more content…
