They believe that new residents will bring with them new ideas about what is desirable and attractive, including standards for architecture, landscaping, public behavior, noise, and nuisance. Those who uphold the need for gentrification tend to argue cities need urban development to increase a diverse industry to thrive. They see inevitable economic benefit of gentrification though tax revenue, contending that they are able to collect on new businesses and property tax to further support their communities. Developers realize the potential of the neighborhood’s and the new demographic. The demand means they can now invest in better housing options, new retail, office parks, etc. The middle class, artists, musicians, and young working professionals move to poor, crime-ridden neighborhoods. These neighborhoods also tend to have gang activity, drug issues, etc. As a result of the new people moving in they make the area 'cool ', safe, and invest in their surroundings. Maybe open new shops, maybe open a gallery or music space, etc. They see this as a benefit to their new community and attempt keep the affordable. The will argue that they are only evicting the squatters and drug addicts -due to increased police presence. The argue for a safer community, without the loss of memory. Where’s the middle ground?
