Lets begin Summer of 2004 I am starting my first ever job as a C.I.T. councilor in training, at a day camp that I have grown up going to and now I get to become a councilor. I am very excited because for nine weeks I will be with nine different groups aging from kids going into second grade to kids going to be sophomores in high school. I am really excited to be with a lot of the councilors I had when I was a in camp. Also I would be working along side a lot of my friends I grew up with who decided they wanted to be councilors too. I remember like it was yesterday I am very excited my first and second groups are third and fourth grade boys, back-to-back weeks. Those were the best weeks of the summer because in my opinion the kids at the perfect age because they, for the most part sit there…
exemplars described in the text. One will not find her agreeing to dress up in any costumes, but she has taken several pies to the face from students who worked hard for the privilege. Mrs. Saffold allows her faculty and staff to do their jobs with little interference, but I feel sometimes she is too hands off. She places a great deal of trust in people to do what is expected of them. So much so, she occasionally fails to make inquiries or inspect what is going on until something goes wrong. …
When my parents told me this I began to work hard to stay with my classmates and move on to the third grade. I was luck that I was able to make it to the third grade with my and was placed with Mrs. Nickels class with a my friend Nick. I could not finish my quizzes and test on time so I had to finish them in class which is the first time I actually remember have to finish a quiz later on in class. Before halfway through third grade is about the time I started to take my focusing medicine so that…
Understanding of multiplication facts is essential to have down by fourth grade. Knowing the times tables and being able to fluently recall immediately is needed throughout the entire year because of PA Mathematics Standards beginning with multiplication of multidigit numbers. There were students in my fourth grade classroom that had yet to be fluent with their multiplication facts, and it was necessary for them to have it down, for everyday mathematics and for the PSSA’s. I discussed with my…
In Mrs. Zatt’s third grade classroom, organization is vital to the students, and utilized in such a way that every student receives equal and quality learning opportunities. While there are no physically disabled students in the current third grade class, safety and accessibility is still factored into the arrangement of the classroom. Classroom 22 is located across the blacktop, not in one of the main buildings, but in a small portable; it is wheelchair accessible with a ramp leading into the…
Putting your loved ones in danger is one of the most selfish and terrifying things that you can do. Whether intentional or not, it is still a scary situation for yourself and the person who could potentially be harmed. If harm is inflicted, the feeling of guilt is inevitable. That gut-wrenching feeling is stuck inside of you, even when everyone tells you that it will be okay. I experienced this about 6 years ago when I was in fourth grade. My youngest brother, Owen, was born when I was in…
It doesn’t mean that everyone is my friend or that I agree with everything the person does, but I let them be who they are. It doesn’t mean that if I don’t agree with someone then I’ll try to change them, but it’ll show me their true colors. Sitting with someone who is alone at lunch or just spending some time to ask how someone’s day is doing, can really make the person feel welcomed and alone. You might’ve just made a new friend, like me when I just showed someone how to get to the cafeteria…
My literacy history began when I was in preschool. I cannot not say I remember every detail in my past. However unlike me, Richard Rodriguez seemed to remember most of his literacy history. Rodriguez describes his past in his essay, “The Lonely, Good Company of Books.” Rodriguez explains how he grew up disliking reading because he did not understand why it was important and he had a reading disability. Once Rodriguez finished his reading program he wanted to read as many books that he could. I…
Derek is a 10 year old, third grade student, who will be entering the fourth grade next school year. Derek’s results from standardized test indicate that he has above average general intelligence and is reading on a second grade reading level. Derek is able to apply a phonetic decoding strategy when attempting to decode words. Derek writes with a cursive writing style, typical of students his age. According to recent achievement testing, Derek has a below average scores for word…
My introduction into education was like most children’s fascination my curiosity took me to levels to where even today I want to explore the world. It made me happy when I had received an award in second grade even though at that age we are still really young and don’t have difficult class work to do, seeing my dad proud that I got an award is a good feeling, and my motivation to continue on having an education. Also being one of my own goals I want to accomplish and show myself that I can…
