In Boonville, Missouri, Lyon encountered a brief skirmish with a band of bushwhacker rebels. After the skirmish Lyon again continued his pursuit and he sent separate troops with their own commanders to cut off and eventually trap Jackson’s army. One of these commanders was Colonel Sigel.
