Follow me as I tell the tale of a girl who lost her confidence in writing. There once was a girl named Oretha who loved to write stories any chance she could. Her mind was a fairytale and when she put a pen on paper her characters would come to life. It was like painting a picture only hers was an imaginary world. How did she learn to write you might ask. Well, it is because she read tons of books. so many she can hardly count. Those books helped her realize her love for fairy tales and she…
I’m Maliha Ashraf, and if I were to describe myself in a single sentence, it would be in the lines of “I am a person of varying interests”. I once read, “An educated person is the one who knows something about everything, and everything about something”. I have tried to follow this quote ever since then, and I would put myself in the former stage of personal education in the light of the mentioned quote. I read a lot, and I’m not very choosy regarding my reading material; I read whatever I can…
Reading and writing have impacted my life in numerous ways; in fact, reading books has impacted my life by expanding my vocabulary. My mother would read difficult books to expose me to broad new words to me at a young age. She would also have me study dictionaries, and continuously give me spelling test. When I got a little older I would start to read books on my own. I would read books that opened up my imagination; such as the series, The Magic Tree House. Eventually, I ended up being too…
This year so far has been a growing period in respect to my learning. English 1101 has helped me to learn many concepts; some of these being writing, reading, peer-editing, and time management. These concepts are not solely related to the basis of this class, but rather related to real-world skills. They are things that are applicable to everyday life. Over the course of progression, we are all going to have some forms of challenges. My biggest challenge so far is time management. Managing time…
English 1105 has been an important learning experience for me and my writing processes. After a response paper, discussion boards, and formal essays, my writing style and process has changed drastically from how it was prior to this class. Each assignment that was required has shaped me as a writer. The response paper helped me to analyze the content of an argumentative work and put into words how I felt about each aspect. Although not time consuming assignments, the discussion boards have…
Steven Barnhart has potential. After a little bit of a bumpy start, he got the hang of the system and how to operate Trello and BLOX. He was consistently prompt in letting me know which stories he planned on editing in his workflow. He responded in a timely manner and was able to catch some errors. However, I believe that there is a lot of room for growth. I believe that this was a good opportunity for him to get his hands dirty and gain experience. Barnhart edited five stories that were…
Beth Fantaskey was born May 5th, 1974. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, got her PhD at Penn State, and got her English degree from Shippensburg, PA. In her book “Buzzkill” it is partially based off of her high school experiences and her favorite books by Nancy Drew. Millie Ostermeyer, the Protagonist, and the author both went to the same high school, like to read, but, they are different because Millie Ostermeyer was not shy in school, while the author was. According to Kate Pavao,…
In all honesty, I was dreading reading the book, The Good Food Revolution. A book about race issues and farming just did not sound like my cup of tea. However, I was a little surprised with Will Allen’s story and what the book was really all about. I think there are interesting stories within this book, I grew fond of a specific character, and the book holds a lot more meaning than just how to farm. Overall, I enjoyed certain parts of the book, but certainly not all. I did not enjoy reading the…
Hi, everyone, I am Keri Inman. I am a Sales Engineer for The Welbilt Company. I am a wife and a mother of two high-spirited girls, two and four. I love my career and my life. There is never a dull moment, however, there is also never a moment of rest. I love doing yard work and organizing, both make me feel I have completed something. In a life of uncompleted tasks, completing the little things like yard work feels very refreshing. I will be honest, I have never really had an interest in…
During this week, our class has went to the African Burial Ground and to Governors Island to learn about our city’s history. Before going to the African Burial Ground, we were able to read an article about it, which that was able to help me understand what this place was about and what their message was. At this place, I was able to have a better understanding of the lives of the African Americans, but more importantly I understood about the lives of them. On this trip, we were given a video to…
