According to Malcolm X, education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare it for today. Whether someone decides to go to a four-year university or a two-year community college, going to college period is destined to change life as you know it forever. Some people come to college not taking it as serious as it should be taken, or it actually ends up being best four years of their lives. My experience in college has been very humbling and mind opening. I have lost many friends and family that I thought that I would never lose, got a taste of the real world, and I now know what it feels like to be financially on my own. Although I am only a first semester sophomore, Norfolk State as already taught me a lot. Going to college is a complete lifestyle change, and you begin to notice that some of the friends and family that were once a part of your life will not be coming along for the rest of your journey. A prime example, would be my former six yearlong best friend Tabitha. I met Tabitha in my sixth grade year while attending Fairfield Middle School, and ever since then we were inseparable, so I thought. I thought that I would never lose Tabitha no matter what I went through in life because of the close bond that we had, but it turned out that going to college would permanently ruin things. Tabitha and I…

baggers. They must drive another forty or more minutes to get home, meaning they spend over an hour a day on the roads. My family lives in Norfolk, where the commissary should only be a twenty to thirty-minute drive away. However, my brothers do not want to pay the toll required to take the Downtown tunnel. Thusly, they go on a longer route through the Gilmerton Bridge or the High Rise Bridge, which do not charge tolls. This my brothers do not only to avoid paying costly tolls on grocery…
An exceptional author makes people feel like they are in the book, living the story right there with the characters. They will draw references from their own experiences in life in order to make the stories more relatable, and, therefore, more real. Their stories, though fictional, will make the reader feel powerful and full. Sir Henry Rider Haggard is one such author that makes readers of his books feel empowered. H. Benton, Attached are the documents and spreadsheets I put together today that we discussed this morning. The first document, Annual Depreciation Expense per Locomotive, shows various methods used to find rates and calculate leasing costs for locomotives. Pages 2-5 also provide example documentation for these rates. In this case the UP Depreciation Expense exceeds the AAR’s West Index in some cases, while CSXT’s expenses are significantly lower than the AAR’s East Index. The next document is a…

(Business Owner) According to the Hartford Courant (2017), Millstone gives Connecticut the opportunity to reduce high electric rates, meet carbon-reduction goals and ensure jobs for the state. Millstone should be kept open because of its benefits at the state and local level. Millstone produces electricity to power 2 million homes, supports 12,000 jobs in the region, and generates the equivalent of half the electricity used by Connecticut. In a study done by the NEI…
This my topic about in college it's a new stepping stone in your life to see what you want to do in life the major you want to pursue as a career. I want to be a professional basketball player, and I know that you got to go to college to do that and I want to major in physical education to be a coach. In the past you could go straight out of high school in the pros, but you have to spend at least 1 year in college, but this my semester at Thomas Nelson but next semester I be transferred to…
Burns states that this divide is not only separating individuals, it is splitting education as well. Despite the evidence that many may present to prove they are not academic, an individual is not destined to be either smart or not smart. In the words Burns, “many brilliant people think they are not because they have been judged against this particular view of the mind.” An individual is as smart as they believe their mind to be. Although objections of being born with mental differences may…
I have observed many children who have dropped out of college because they were not ready for the freedom of being on their own. I remember my next door neighbor only let her son attend a local community college. The other children attended colleges and universities far away from home, but he went to school nearby. The reason behind that is because his mom wanted to make sure her child was prepared for college mentally. She didn’t want her son to drop out because of parties, and not keeping up…
