Opening Remarks: Good morning church! It is on this beautiful morning that I would like to speak to you from a rather different passage. This message stems from the book of Nahum. If you are unfamiliar with this book, it consists of three chapters and is tucked in between Micah and Habakkuk in the Old Testament. The general overview of the book of Nahum is the description of God’s wrath toward Nineveh and how He will destroy it. (Dramatic Pause) Now before you check out on me, do not be dismayed. I promise you that I will not spend the next 30 minutes rebuking this church body. Instead, I want to talk to you about, “Jehovah-Naheh, the God Who Smites the Enemy.” Prayer: Pray with me before we begin. “Lord, we come before you today, as a congregation,…
Halyn Nahum Quinlan liked her name. It fit her personality perfectly. Halyn for her unique personality, Nahum for her comforting nature, and Quinlan for her strength. Hayln never understood her older brother, Allister’s name. It meant the protector and helper, which he was neither. Her mother’s name, Anidita, meant blameless, while her dad’s name, Placido, meant quiet. Anidita fit her mother, since she never seemed to do anything wrong. ArmyAmber / PixabayThe prophets Nahum, Zephaniah & Habakkuk lived in similar times and were given similar messages, but there are considerable differences to their stories. Whether it was a message of judgment and doom or salvation and restoration, a close examination of these prophets reveals a similar thread of thought throughout - the righteousness of God! By looking at each book individually, we can glean a better understanding of the whole of God’s word and God’s purposes throughout…
standing with no people to inhabit them. Present day Nineveh is Mosul, Iraq. The city of Mosul happens to be where modern-day ISIS is currently at. Another book that talks about the future of Nineveh is Nahum. In chapter three, he says that multitudes of people will be killed, and there will be so many bodies in the streets that people will stumble over the corpses. People will flee by multitudes and many children and men will die and be taken captive. Military leaders will flee and be killed or…
In “The Colour out of Space” the first-person narrator arrives at a place described as “West Arkham” where he discovers five acres desolated and covered in ash and dust. There he asks an old man nearby, Ammi Pierce, what had happened there. From then on the narrator retells what Ammi tells him. Back in his earlier days there lived a family, the Gardners, on the farm there and Ammi was a close friend of the father, Nahum. Then someday a meteor fell onto their property close to their well and was…
back on track,” in four ways. First are the major prophets, who were the experts in all areas of the law and had experienced this knowledge in multiple ways. I have to mention Isaiah, whose prophecy would tell us of the Messiah who IS the counsellor, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Second, the prophets…

18:11-13, 77:18; Job 38:1, 40:6; Isaiah 29:6, 66:15; and Nahum 1:3. Taking the examples of God speaking in the whirlwinds as example, the presence of God is closely related with the whirlwind. For Job, the whirlwind has been an indication of the death of his children. However, the vision of God answering Job from the whirlwind implies “the fact of God being in the storm.” From this theophany, we can have several principles. First, God is in the storm. It looks like Job suffered all the…
