Jonah and Nehemiah are two prophets that can teach us Christians a lot of life lessons and also how to deal with things when adversity strikes. The story of Jonah is one of the more well-known stories throughout the Bible, probably because we can learn so much from it in what is such a little book of God’s Word. It starts out with God telling Jonah to go to Nineveh, a great city that was weak in its beliefs. Jonah, instead of trusting in the Lord, fled to Tarshish. To get to Tarshish, he first had to go to Joppa and get on a ship. It was on this ship that the Lord made it clear that Jonah was not to go to Tarshish, but instead to Nineveh. Jonah and a bunch of other mariners were in the middle of the Sea when God brewed up a massive storm. The men all prayed to their pagan gods to stop the raging sea. Meanwhile, Jonah was fast asleep in the cabin of the ship. One of the men then came to Jonah and told him to pray to his God to stop the storm. When Jonah prayed to God, the Lord told him that he must get off that ship and go to Nineveh. So the sailors cast lots, and they threw things over the edge so it wouldn’t sink the ship. The lot fell on Jonah, and he was thrown overboard into the ocean, where he was swallowed up by what the Bible describes as a whale, or some sort of a massive fish. Jonah spent three days and three nights in the whale’s stomach, and was finally vomited out by the whale near shore. Jonah then finally realized it was time to go and preach to the…
