Frida Kahlo’s art presented herself as what she really saw. The self-portraits she created were not idealized or meant to be surreal, but an actual representation of the person she thought she was. This pure expression of the self, inspired my own work in many ways. I wanted to create something with duality, as many of her pieces have, and that expressed my sense of self as purely as possible. There were a few challenges I faced, but overall, using Frida Kahlo as inspiration showed me how art…

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter who did self-portraits and was considered a feminist icon. She originally wanted to become a doctor but a bus accident left her unable to do so. I chose this artist because she had one eye brow and I thought it was strange for a rich woman to have such a statement in the early 1900s. I thought to myself, she must be an interesting person and I was right. She had no formal training but she developed her artistic skills and later would influence people and…
her childhood and adulthood and her national identity.
