this is an analysis essay of three of Carl Sandburg's poem. I will analyze three poems that Carl Sandburg wrote in different times in his life. Also throughout my realization, I will talk about how he has used countless examples of personification. He uses personification and relates back to his life and home. Carl Sandburg grew up in Galesburg Illinois. His parents emigrated from North Sweden and change their family name from Johnson to Sandburg. His family was very poor which forced him to leave school at the age of 13 and work random unstable jobs to help support his family. At the age of seven teens, he moved to Kansas as a hobo. He would go on to serve eight months in the Spanish-American war and met a student of Lombard college a small school in his hometown. He was then convinced to go back home and work on his education a change that altered the course of his life and sent him down the path of poetry. Sandburg worked his way through school, where he attracted the attention of Professor Philip Green Wright. He then continued to sponsor Carl throughout his time and even publishing his first work. He also worked as an inspiration for Carl and help him along. While Carl attended the school he never once got a diploma but would later receive The…
I have chosen St. Cornelius as my Confirmation name. I chose this name because my great-great grandpa’s name was actually Cornelius. My grandpa’s name was Neal, and Neal is also my middle name, so St. Cornelius seemed like a fitting name. St. Cornelius was a Roman Pope in March of 251 AD to June of 253 AD. Emperor Decius was previously ruling before him and he was a ruler who had actually persecuted Christians and he ordered all citizens to perform a religious sacrifice in the presence of…
Once more reinforcing the link between colonial, patriarchal, and Evangelical Christian discourse, came the idea “women who lacked sufficient religious fervor would succumb to the allure of the East of disintegrate in the hot tropical climate” (Krishnaswamy 55). Thus fears regarding the weak female in a climate thought to aggravate her nature were escalated due to the importance of her body to the empire. In Anna Lombard, the dynamic of problematic sexuality and desire are enacted in the…
relationships made between individuals occupying similar roles. Through the colonial missions goal of “remaking the Other in the image of the Self, inevitably needed and produced culturally hybrid subjects among the colonizers as well as the colonized” (Krishnaswamy 39). There seems to be a merging of sexual, gendered, and national identities in Anna Lombard. Gerald remarks that natures craves “to return to the type which is neither extreme in all cases has mixed that inviolable instinct with…
High School to College Transition The transition from high school to college has been an adjustment it is something new and exhilarating. College does have its academic challenges though that is much different from my high school experience; it is a challenge that has much more positive outcomes. This transition is one of the biggest step forwards, I have ever done, from being told what to do all the time to being independent and having a ton of responsibilities. I come from a small catholic…

children to work hard, do well, and earn a college degree, then they will get a job. Many would argue that this philosophy helped the older generation be successful in their educational and post-educational careers, so it should not be changed; however, in the words of Ken Burns, “the problem is that the current system of education was designed…
Up program was introduced, I had a fair idea of what I was intending to study, but I remained unsure and had made no further necessary decisions about my post-secondary education. The reason I had not even thought about what university I wanted to go to or what career I wanted to pursue was due to a lack of resources and guidance. My parents, although always supportive of me, were limited as to what they could help me with when it came to making academic decisions beyond high school as they had…
Many say that American high schools teach students to learn how to take standardized tests on writing, rather than actually prepare them for college. Therefore, most secondary students are entering college without an understanding of how to meet demands of college writing beyond the prescribed “standard five-paragraph essay.” Susan Fanetti’s “Closing the Gap between High School Writing Instruction and College Writing Expectations” examines the discrepancy between American high schools and their…
