That evening when riding to the play the Lincoln’s decided that they were not going to have any security personnel escort them, simply because they wanted alone time together. They slipped into their box by the stage unannounced and almost unnoticed, accompanying them was Major Henry Rathbone and his fiancee, Clara Harris (Norton). At about the same time, Booth was at a nearby saloon downing a glass of whiskey before committing the final act. At about 10:07 Booth made his way over to the theater entering much like the President, unannounced and unnoticed. Booth strolled up the grand staircase in the front lobby to the floor where the Presidential box was situated (O’Reilly, 193).
