When in Space internet is faster (as long as the device is in range). This can be useful since the internet houses an extensive library on just about anything. Information can be powerful but what will happen when a crew member falls ill or injures himself and there is no available resources to use even if there is data on the subject. On all manned flights the possible Astronauts go through rigorous training to weed out any medical issues but they can still be there. Most conditions are unknown (even if medical history is) until it is too late. A good comparison to the health requirement would be a FAA 3rd Class Airman Medical Certificate. These requirements include no: eye issues, psychological disorders, hearing issues, neurologic issues, cardiovascular issues, diabetes mellitus. This definitely reduces the American population that meets the requirements. About 9.1% of the US has a personality disorder. This consists of psychosis (1%) and Substance dependence (7.4% alcoholism and 9.4% for illegal drugs)(Stine). Some of these conditions manifest themselves much later in life which indicates that if there were to be a colony things would arise. In 2007, the ISS had to fix a ripped solar panel. The astronaut’s suit is the only thing keeping them safe from the dangers of space. Weighing in at 300 lbs it is quite heavy and bulky (thank goodness for microgravity). Next they had to fix the panel. It is akin to threading cords through grommets of a camping tarp. Not…
Tim O’Brien was born in Austin, Minnesota on October 1st, 1946. His mother was an elementary school teacher, his father an insurance salesman, and he had a younger sister and brother. His mother taught his the mechanics of writing while his father encouraged reading. His father was an alcoholic, and mercilessly teased young O’Brien. O’Brien found comfort in baseball and in performing magic. In the article “Tim Obrien (1946 - )” it states, “O’Brien… moved at the age of ten with his family to…
My Chemical Romance: Possible Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee My Chemical Romance first started making music in New Jersey in 2001. Later, the next year they made their first album called “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love,” produced by Eyeball Records (AllMusic). The band ended up leaving that record company for Reprise Records the following year, and also created their second album “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (AllMusic).” In the upcoming year they had to replace the…
In a family full of strong personalities, competition, and jealousy, the end result of competition and jealousy leaves one winner and one loser. The loser never sees his flaws, only what he believes is right; his point of view. Walter, the protagonist in the literary drama Raisin in the Sun, is competing with his sister Beneatha to achieve his dream of liquor store ownership. His sister, Beneatha wants to be a doctor, a more noble goal for Mama than a liquor store. In Lorraine Hansberry’s play,…
The series of frames in between the keyframes are drawn in a process called tweening. Tweening, short for in-betweening, is the process of creating intermediate frames between two separate objects in order to show the appearance of movement and evolution of the first object into the second object. They help to create the illusion of motion. And it is a key process in cel animation as well as computer animation. Cultured animation software permits an animator to recognize precise items in an…
Michael Scoggins created “Dang! I committed war crimes” in 2008, using crayons and markers on paper only. “The work I make is always political,” says Michael Scoggins, who lampoons American and art – world politics and provincialism in trenchant, disarming schoolboy-style doodles and writings. “Dang! I committed war crimes,” was also about political conflict and he created this piece of art during 2008 election. Scoggins made it in a decent size 67 X 51 (170.2 X 129.5 cm) where it’s neither too…
Gerard Manley Hopkins’ “Spring” vs. John Keats’ “To Autumn” Gerard Manley Hopkins’ Italian sonnet, “Spring” and John Keats’ ode, “To Autumn” are both similar and different in their use of literary devices. The poems’ similar titles, both seasons, are somewhat deceiving; they lead readers to believe that the poems are more similar than they actually are. “To Autumn” was written on September 19, 1819, but was not published until the following year ("To Autumn - Keats"). Hopkins’ poem, “Spring,”…
which is can stimulate the reader in order to follow the direction, and eventually stumble upon latent meaning. Another clue or use of vivid figurative language is when Banks says “like medals with their ribbons” (60) Bank’s is referring to the fact that the fish has five lines dangling from its mouth, and relates these broken lines to battles. She almost delineates the fish almost as a solider, how the fish has won battles, and earned medals. From this use of figurative language we can deduct…
Thesis: “Design” and “Sunday Morning” both approach faith, but contrast in how God is associated with nature and death. Body Paragraph 2: The two narrators relate nature and religion different ways. The “Design” narrator suggests that nature is a product of God’s design. He says, “I found a dimpled spider, fat and white, / On a white heal-all, holding up a moth / Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth.” The setting seems mundane aside from the unusual coincidence that all of the figures…
Heaney’s poems ‘Blackberry Picking’ and ‘Death of a Naturalist’ are both about insignificant events in his time. Both poems share similar themes: life, loss of childhood innocence and expectations and disappointment. The themes were conveyed through Heaney’s manipulation of the poem structure and his use of deliberately picked words and phrases. In this essay, I will be discussing about how his use of the poem structure and language expresses the themes of the two poems. Firstly, the poem…
