But soon the Italians found out that metal didn't last long against firearms. In the 1800’s the Japanese found a softer body armor and was developed. The vest was made of silk therefore, each vest was very expensive. In 1901, after the assassination of President William McKinley, the US military explored the use of softer body armor as well. The silk undergarments were founded as effective for low-velocity but couldn't stand the handgun ammunition. Later on the flak jacket was invented during world war two. It was made up of ballistic nylon with provided protection from the ammunition fragments. Most of the flak jackets during world war two were not very strong at all. The flak jackets were mostly ineffective against rifle and pistol fire. Most soldiers still wore the vests because it made them feel secure with extra protection. In the 1960’s many new fibers were discovered that gave fully bulletproof vests way more potential. In the 1970’s Kevlar ballistic fiber was invented. The fabric was originally made to replace steel armor, and it was extremely strong. Kevlar fabric was added the the vests to make it stronger. Also the Kevlar fabric was way lighter in weight than steel, so the new vests would be very comfortable and also make it a lot easier to move and run. The vests were tested for several years and…
