There are four steps to the preimplantation genetic diagnosis. This procedure begins with the removal of a few cells from the embryos. After removal, the cells undergo testing for inherited genetic disorders. Once identified, perfect embryos go into the uterus once again and implantation occurs. Lastly, the remaining perfect embryos undergo freezing for later usage, in order to preserve them. Furthermore, after completing the testing phase of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, in vitro begins. The American Pregnancy Association states five important steps of the process. First, prescribed fertility medications stimulate the woman’s egg production because many eggs will not develop or properly fertilize. The first step also involves a transvaginal ultrasound used to examine the ovaries. A transvaginal ultrasound is an internal examination, with the usage of this tool observation of the ovaries, cervix, vagina, uterus, as well as the fallopian tubes help many doctors with diagnostics. Women undergoing in vitro fertilization may experience pain and discomfort due to the procedures. Blood tests are vital to the first step as the woman’s hormone levels need close monitoring.
