    Relationships are a significant part of an individual’s like. The people that make up those relationships, the kinds or sorts of relationships they are, what those relationships are based (the basis for those relationships). They can make an individual’s life in one way or another. Ways never expected, it can be positive or it can be negative. But either way, it presents one with the ability to learn from it whether there be good or bad consequences that stem from it. It’s something to look back on, a humorous anecdote to tell while at some posh party that’s more boring than actual fun, a lesson to teach the grandchildren one cool night around the living room’s fireplace. In the pieces such as “Shiloh” by Bobbie Ann Mason, “Lust” by Susan Minot, “Poem for the Young White Man who asked Me How I, an Intelligent, Well-read Person Could Believe in the War Between Races” by Lorna Dee Cervantes and "Coming to Class Consciousness" by Bell Hooks. Between the two protagonists in Bobbie Ann Mason’s story “Shiloh” the audience it exposed to a relationship that’s been through the thick and thin, yet is still hopeful. The authentic, natural affection Leroy and Norma Jean have make for a stronger story. From the text, one is able to tell how observant Leroy’s character is. How is able to notice the subtle nuance’s taking place in his town he’s never seen before.
