The University Jazz Combos concert did not focus on formality the way I originally believed it would. Instead of walking into a concert hall to see the performers dressed in black, already set up, and just finishing tuning there was a shocking amount of color, styles of dress, and a flurry of movement. My experience from the last concert lead me to believe that a recital would be just as formal and put together as a symphony performance. In fact, the entire atmosphere of the recital hall was…
resigned towards it being dull, boring, and tiresome because this is not my preference of music. However, despite attending it with obvious bias, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole concert experience was startling with exhilaration. The entire atmosphere stuck out to me, as it was a deep contrast towards my usual pop concerts. The lights were dimmed and everyone was silent, simply enjoying the music. The conductor also enhanced the entire experience due to his high energy and obvious love for…
The event that I attended was the fall concert by “The Dalton State Singers” that was held on the main campus of Dalton State College in the Goodroe Auditorium in Gignilliat Memorial Hall. It was a concert in which singers performed songs and the music director played the piano. Since the concert was held in the auditorium the sound was evenly distributed for everyone to enjoy. The concert was very organized which lead to a pleasurable experience. The singers performed (Shenandoah, When I Fall…
I thoroughly enjoyed observing Dr. Silveira conduct and lead the IC Concert Band in rehearsal today. Dr. Silveira led a very efficient rehearsal that resulted in a lot of playing by the ensemble, and significant improvement. At the beginning of the rehearsal, I noticed that flutes, clarinets and saxophones were there. I discovered later that this was because they were given sectional time while Dr. Silveira worked with the rest of the ensemble for a portion of the rehearsal. This allowed him to…
Concert report #2 On October 21, 2015 I attended the California State University Wind and Brass Quintets. The concert was held on the Universities campus, at the Gerald R. Daniel Recital Hall. The Wind Quintet was directed by John Barcellona, and the Brass Quintet was directed by Steve Trapani. The event had a moderate amount of attendees, likely no more than thirty in total, for the type of ensemble and that it was held on a Wednesday night. Combined both ensembles played a total of five…
attended an organ concert held in Broyhill music hall on the campus of Appalachian State University. The organist was Keith Weber and he was accompanied by James with special appearances by opera singer Pricilla Porterfield, and obo player Alicia Chapman, and Rob Flavo on percussion. It was a rainy, cloudy and just a plain dreary type of evening. I thought that and organ concert might be just the type of anticlimactic end to such a day. Even though I had never attended a concert like this…
This concert changed my expectations. I walked in thinking, “Oh, this is just another concert that I have to go to for school. It’s probably going to be boring, but this concert was the only one that worked in my schedule.” I walked out of the concert thinking, “Why haven’t I gone to a Lessons and Carols concert before?” It was absolutely wonderful and it definitely brought me closer to God, the main reason we have Lessons and Carols, concerts, or even music. The Service of Lessons and Carols…
This was my first jazz concert to have ever attended. I went to a senior recital in Dallas at Stoney’s Wine Lounge where Taylor Katase played drums with her band. My first impression was a little intimidated by the atmosphere. I felt very much like an outsider entering the building having never come to this place before. Everyone was paying close attention to the performance and seemed slightly disturbed by my intrusion. The first thing I noticed was the smooth sound of a piano ,accompanied…
The UT Dallas School of Arts and Humanities presented a concert at the Jonsson Performance Hall titled “A Renaissance Faire.” They held showings October 28th & 29th from 8 PM to 9:30 PM. The show featured the UT Dallas Chamber Singers and students from Advanced Vocal Instruction. The concert singers preformed mainly a cappella, but they were also accompanied by accompanist Michael McVay, who played an electronic piano modified to sound like a lute. Kathryn Evans, the conductor, also accompanied…
I attended the Stones River Chamber Players on February 29th. This was played in the Hilton Music Hall. When I was going in I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a music concert on the MTSU campus. There were around 60-70 people who attended this concert. Most of the individuals who attended were more than likely there for a class because more than half were students who did not understand the concept of staying off of their phone. When the three performers came out they…
