The movie kicks off by introducing Michael as a very talented athlete who is making it through extreme difficulties growing up. A mechanic who occasionally looks after Michael explained why Oher would be a great fit for Wingate Christian High School’s football team to the team’s head coach, Coach Cotton. Coach Cotton was blown away with Michael’s athletic ability and convinced those in charge of admissions at Wingate to admit the 6’8” 360 pound Oher. Cotton’s main argument for admitting Michael dealt with the school allowing Michael to improve his situation in life, bringing up the idea that it was the school’s Christian duty.
