Descartes gives three arguments to try and make himself believe that all his thoughts, beliefs and previous knowledge is nonexistent or has no value. He is trying to convince himself that he knows nothing. I think this is a rather difficult task to perform considering that no matter what you try to do to convince yourself of something you will always go back to your old thoughts and beliefs. It is just how our minds work. The first main argument I am going to talk about is the Dreaming Argument…
Without friends no one would choose to live (Aristotle). Although there are a few controversy views on friendship across many generations friendships develop in our early stages of life. Our most prominent friends are while we are smaller such as close family members or even more relatable, our siblings. To further define friendship is the conduct of friends and a union between individuals. Friendships serves as therapeutic value (Kaiser 2012). They are there to be supportive and give guidance.…

The existence of God has been debated throughout history. There are many arguments for the existence of God but there are two commonly-accepted arguments among theists: the cosmological argument and the teleological argument also known as the argument from design. In his article entitled “On Being an Atheist”, H.J. McCloskey attempts to refute each of these arguments. His stated purpose in the article is to provide reasons for atheism and to show that it is more comforting to be an atheist than…
2b. The critique presented by Gould and Lewontin in the Spandrels paper describes the shortcomings of the adaptationist program that had been the predominant path of evolutionary thought for decades. Adaptationists see natural selection as the only and all-powerful force that can overcome any constraint to species' traits, and that evolution in turn relies exclusively on natural selection. In challenging this concept of adaptation, Gould and Lewontin are not denying the existence evolution by…

Today, a few countries have legalized a method to circumvent this suffering; it is known as physician/euthanasia assisted suicide (EAS). In America, a handful of states have legalized this new medical approach but there is still a lot of opposition for moral and religious reasons. Most…
In 1994, the Surgeon General of the United States was dismissed from her position for suggesting that schools engage students in the explicit discussion about masturbation. When looking back, putting aside personal or religious beliefs concerning the topic, it would appear that masturbation would serve as a countermeasure against teenage pregnancy and the transmission of sex-related diseases, but when politics enters the discussion, everything rational gets tossed out the window (Canino, J. T.,…
