My experience with the four I’s has been this, I know how to keep my goals in focus and purse them no matter what curve ball is thrown at me. Throughout the challenges while growing up, I never missed a beat academically or personally. Last summer, I lost my best friend on the first day of summer school, the day Physic 's I began. I did not drop the class, I finished Physic 's I and II last summer with a 4.0. There was a hole in my heart and unbearable sadness each day, but I was successful…
In Plato’s dialogue, Phaedrus, Socrates meets Phaedrus and walks outside the city to discuss love and rhetoric. Phaedrus tells Socrates of Lysias ' speech about love and Socrates gives Phaedrus his response through two different speeches. His first speech proposes the coldblooded passion of the “non-lover” or the wanton lover regarding carnal pleasure. Then, he delivers a second speech which begins with him discarding the truth in the prior speech and refers to true beauty. With this book,…
Breann Powell is an eighteen year old female and she is currently an Occupational Therapy student at Worcester State University. For this profile she filled out a “time study” that she recorded her activities for four days, an interest check list that she labeled different activities as a casual interest, a strong interest, or no interest, and she took a life balance inventory which gives life balance scores based on what she is interested in and how often she gets to do those things. Roles and…
The love for reading doesn’t come easily to everyone. When I was a young my mother shared her love for books with me revealing hidden worlds, daring heroes, and new ideas. It all kindled my curiosity and creativity. I carried my fascination for books when I started school. My love for reading went into hibernation as I became older; reading was still enjoyable, but had become more of a tedious job that had forced it’s way into my life. I had to learn to love reading again. I had to become like…
One thing we’re sure about life is that it is constantly changing. People go through many changes in life whether by choice or not. There are positive and negative changes that affect our lives. It can happen in a moment or gradually over time. The most important thing about change is whether you like it or not, you have to deal with it. My life changed in one moment, but I have learned to move forward. On Christmas 2010, I was excited to get the Wii gaming console. As a result, I ended up…
Safety and security is a big time subject in the Probation Department. It is a way to make sure that all Probation Officers are safe and alive and well. One thing I have found out is that we need to be sure that we are both safe and secure in every situation. Today I Recruit McKnight was given a paper from Instructor Limbrick on safety and security because I failed to follow protocol due to lack of judgement and made a mistake by reporting without a partner. It was irresponsible of me to report…
One habit I have made is getting up early. Since I have a class that begins at eight o’clock in the morning, I am used to waking up early enough to make it on time. On the days I do not have that class, however, I simply get up anyway and work on homework. This definitely helps me accomplish many tasks without getting swamped with work. Another habit I have picked up is simply praying in the morning and before I go to bed. I know that this is something I should have been doing long before I…
This current semester I am enrolled in Professor Zack’s Media Production I class. Our first project of the semester was a silent film that would focus on someone or something involving a lock and a key while expressing an emotion. This project wasn’t a solo project, but instead involved working with one other person. The lock and key could be metaphoric or literal and from that concept we had to tell a story in twelve to fifteen shots. Our idea was to convey a young musician finding the right…
Blacking in and out, confusion and fear filled my mind as I slowly woke up lying on my back between my four-wheeler and the cold ground. I was numb; my mind was racing “what just happened?” All in the matter of seconds. I hear a faint yelling of some sort as I close my eyes again. “Kylie!” I open my eyes; everyone around me was moving the four-wheeler from off top of me, and my step dad and his friend trying to wake me up. My eyes closed. It was a mid January morning in 2012; I was 15 years…
I have my mother’s smile and you can spot my father’s eyes plastered on me from a mile away. There is no doubt in connecting my physical features to that of my parents. On another level, far different from genetic code, they are my main influences in hardwiring me to become who I am today. My father has taught me ingenuity. Daily, I witness the outside environment making his life harder, however his naturally brilliant pose allows him to maneuver out of any situation. My mother’s undeniable love…
