The Egyptians were surrounded by desert them isolated from invasion. The Nile water was used for transportation, irrigation, and drinking.
Describe the Nile from its source to the delta.
The White Nile in E. Africa flows north to meet the Blue Nile (highlands) then travels to the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile empties into the Mediterranean Sea.
What were the religious beliefs of the ancient Egyptians?
• Ancient Egyptians believed in many god/goddesses that controlled nature. They also believed in the afterlife.
In what ways did the ancient Egyptians use religion to understand nature?
They believed that the god/goddesses controlled nature and this control explained the working of nature.
Why did the Egyptians mummify their dead?
• Egyptian believed mummification prepared the individual for the afterlife and that the spirit needed to recognize the body when it returned to receive food and offerings.
How do we know that the afterlife was important to the ancient Egyptians?
They took great care in preparing and preserving the body, plus they built tombs to ensure a place and comfort in the afterlife.
Why were the pharaohs concerned about the condition of their tombs.
They took care that they had protection from grave/tomb robbers and that the appearance of the tomb reflected the wealth and power of the individual.
