1.Wolves need to eat at least 2 and ½ pounds a day just to live. They don’t get to eat every day so they will at as much as 22 pounds at once. 2. The pack is led by a strong male and a strong female. They are called Alpha. 3. Wolves have narrow chests and powerful backs. This helps them go for long distances at only ten miles per hour. 4. Wolves will eat smaller animals on their own. |

HABITAT
1. Found in large numbers in Alaska and Canada and smaller numbers in Pacific Northwest and upper Midwest (Minnesota). 2. Wolves live on prairies, forest lands, and mountains. 3. Wolves live in caves, hollow tree trunks, or holes in the grounds. This is their den or lair. 4. In the spring, females have litters of one to eleven pups. The pups normally stay with the parents until the following winter but may remain much longer. 5. Gray wolves were once abundant throughout much of North America, Urasia, and the Middle East. 6. Under the Endangered Species Act, the gray wolf is listed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as threatened in Minnesota and as an endangered species elsewhere in the United States except Alaska. 7. Wolves, like humans, are very adaptable to different climates and surroundings. |
