What is common-sense realism?
|
The way we perceive the world mirrors the way the world is.
Example: If I see a table, touch the table, hear the sound of my hand hitting the table... there must be a table. Pg. 99` |

What is scientifiic realism?
|
The world exist as a independent reality, but it is very different from the way we perceive it. "Atoms in the void." (pg. 100-1)

What is Empiricism?
|
School of philosophy which argues all knowledge is ultimately based on our senses. pg. 86 (related to phenomalism)

What is sensation?
|
An awareness gained from one of the five senses: sight, sound, touch, small and taste. pg. 86

What if the Figure and Ground phenomena?
|
The idea that when we look at a tableu or scene we highlight certain aspects and treat other parts as a background. The part we highlight is called the "figure" and the background "ground". pg. 88

|
A condition, due to brain damage, which results in an inability to interpret what a person sees.

What is phenomalism?
|
Phenomalism is a radical position based on the philosphical position of empiricism. A phenomalist would say that the world exists only in our ability to experience it through sensations.
