Division also exist between interpretations of gay marriage and even though it's been allowed people still feel it goes against morals.
There is also factionalism between brexit The referendum was called because of the completely disagreeing sides and the opinions were so varied the leader at the time, Cameron had to call a snap referendum to save the party from falling apart. Big difference between old labour and new labour. Old labour has a commitment to the working class as this is what the party was founded upon in the 20th century. However thatchers arrival in 1983 brought a change and the economy and society was more of a concern. The split is between traditionalists vs modernisers
The link to trade unions is also where the party is spilt as some believe it is crucial as it's our aim whilst others feel it's damaging and limiting. However overall not spilt + commitment to welfare provision |
