Environmental impacts your product might have on the environment

-imported materials transportation using energy, and fossil fuels

-materials produced inother countries that don’t produce sustainably

-Waste may not be disposed of in asafely or environmentally friendly

-material produced byfarming, or extractions through processes that createdamage to the soil, water and atmosphere.

How could you reduce environmental impacts

-Use locally produced materialsand services to reduce carbon emissions from transport

-Use organically producedmaterials to reduce harmful soil and water management practices

-Reuse and recycle materials

-Measure carefully to reducere-cutting and manufacturing mistakes that will use more resources

Identify a new emerging material that could be used to make yourproject and discuss its properties

Bamboo

Advantages:

-Hypoallergenic

-Absorbent

-Cheap

-biodegradable

-lifestyle choices

For a product of your choice describe how theapplication of new technology has improved its: Manufacture

-more efficient

-reduction in time to make

-endless designs (stitches/ embroidery)

-achieve professional finish on domestic machine

For a product of your choice describe how theapplication of new technology has improved its:

Function

-improved fit

-increased comfort/ softness in seams

-improved durability of fabrics

-no seam failures, so less faulty garments

For a product of your choice describe how theapplication of new technology has improved its:

Usability

-Accuracy of fit and finish

-High preformance materials

-new fabrics

-improved durability

Performance criteria questions

-Function: specific to thequestion what will you use it for

-Aesthetics: what are youfavourite colours? Pattern?

-Ergonomics: zip in the front orbuttons? Tight or loose fit?

-Safety: specific to theactivity its is used for

-Cost: price range set?

-Environmental impact do you care?

-Anthropometric data: whatclothing sizes do you need?

What is a trend?

A trend is a direction thatconsumers are taking in buying their particular products. A trend simplyimplies and represent changing tastes and habits of consumers

How can a trend impact a target audience?

Trends impact a target audienceby influencing what they purchase

Techniques that can be used to carry out market research

-Compare existing products

-Show potential costumersprototypes and see reactions

-Scan social media fro trends

-Look at the economic andsocial/ cultural factors for the target market

-Identify consumers lifestylechoices and attitudes

Analyze and discuss the relationship between lifestyle choices, consumer demand and product innovation, as shown in the diagram

Analyze and discuss the relationship between lifestyle choices, consumer demand and product innovation, as shown in the diagram

-The diagram represents theconnection between each element and how they act on each other

-Lifestyle choices create anddetermine consumer demand and that consumer demand drives a lot of productinnovation

-New, innovative products theinfluence, informs and create new lifestyle choices, and drive to now consumerdemands and further innovation.

-Money then follows the process, successcreating the finances to research and innovate

Because of the environmental degradation we have a responsibility todesign and produce products that last longer, are made from sustainable andrecyclable materials to reduce impact on the environment.

What strategies can thetextiles industry implement to support this statement?

1.Address the environmentalimpact of the materials used to make products

2.Use materials that have improvedefficiency of material extraction- transport, removal, waste management

3.Reuse and recycle materials toreduce the damage down when extracting the materials

4.Develop efficient ways of wasteremoval

5.Consider atmosphericenvironmental issues such as greenhouse gasses during production

6.Compare the energy demands ofproduction processes

7.Use biodegradable materials

8.Will the product require extraspecial car taken which will require chemicals

9.Don’t use harsh chemicals fordies and finishes

10.Question he transport impact, benefit of using local/ country grownmaterials

Finish that can be used

Advantages and Disadvantages

Overlocker

Advantages:

-Neatens edges

-Cuts off threads

Disadvantages:

-May cut off too much fabric/ puts holes in fabric

-threads may be lose and not overlock neatly/ or evenly

Describe how the appropriate finishing process is fundamental to achieving the design brief

Decorative effect- embroidery

-Marketable- clipping thread, neat stitching

-Shape creates fuller figure -pleats = balance

-The chosen fabric- suitin- easy to care

Argue how sustainable practices have affected your design/ manufactor

Needs of the target market influence design

-Social perception, needs to be functional but also reflect social values of the target market

-if not considered it wont be attractive

-dated design= no approval for wealthy

what would a new employee be expected to be told about in the induction process to ensure osh processes are followed

-personal protective equipment will be used

-trained in safe work procedures

-risk management

-will be provided with support, assistance in need of first aid

-knows evacuation procedures

Duty of care responsibilities employers must meet to ensure a safe workplace

-must properly train and supervise staff to ensure safe work practices are followed

-consult will all employees about decisions that may affect safety

-provide protective equipment

-regularly check osh systems and procedures

-adequately provide facilities for staff

Compare advantages and disadvantages of suing the fabric you do now and a new emerging fabric

Advantages:

Bamboo:

-Hypoallergenic -Absorbent

-Cheap -Biodegradable

Disadvantages:

Cotton:

-Support local farmers

-stretchy

Explain how demand from consumers can influence the development of the new emerging materials

-puts a greater demand on materials and resources

-design and fashion trends

-demand encourages further research

-efficiecy leads to demand

-resistance to deforestation

Explain what a niche market is

A 'niche market' is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing on. Eg designed to fit the needs, price, production quality and demographics of a specific market.

Ergonomic

average human measurements, to fit to the body and its movements

Anthropometric

Refers to (useful) measurements taken

Factors that might affect the costing of the final product

-Sizes being made

-the style of garment (some require more fabric)

-lining and quality interfacing

-transportation requirements/ shipping

-machineary expenses

-safety standards

improve on production process

-chiffon needs french seam as it will fray

-necklines/ pleats require interfacing

-gathers stay stitched down

Changes made in the production process to undertake mass production

-use of commercial cutting machines to cut fabric

-computer generated layouts of pattern (CAD)

-5 stitched thread and overlocker seams are done in all one process

-batch sewn

How the production plan will be reviewed in mass production to reduce waste in the process

-cutting stage use computer generated cutting guide with the mot economical layout

-cut in piles of 200 all at once

- elcectricity is therefore saved with cutting in batches as it cuts down operating time

Quality control checklist that would assist in the success of the production process

-seams even in width without puckering

-necklines stayed with interfacing and sits correctly

-gathers are even

-hems are even, right height and are an appropriate stitch for the fabric

-all threads are clipped

Outline one source of inspiration for your garment

I was inspired by the the intricacy and delicacy of the white peacock feather. I really enjoyed the way the patterns were detailed and simplicity by itself but when it was put together it became busy and full of movement. Bright/ light. wings of a dragonlfy, art deco era

Outline how functionality influenced the construction process employed for your design

I used a mechanical stretch fabric for my jacket ad this frays easily therefore i overlocked every seam to ensure that when washed it will not fall appart also makes it neat. Back i top stitched down the pleats to make sure they layed flat, and fell evenly

Safety features and processes when sewing

Overlocker

-overocker stay away from blade that will cut fabric

-fingers away from blade to avoid cutting yrself

-leave 10cm of thread before and after each use

-ensure needle cover is in the right positons to avoid it dislogeing

-machine off when changing needle or cutting blade

State where in construction phase a change in process influenced the intended outcome or design brief of a project

change in pleats from having multiple knife pleats to an inverted pleat

pro and cons of fabric

mechanical stretch

-strenchy

-nice diagonal grain line

-in expensive

-frays

researched options for a finishing technique

-zig-zag was to messy

-overlocker clean and efficient

-better wash and wear

- biased bound was unnessessary
