What is human development?

Human development is the scientific study of processes of change and stability. The study of human development seeks to describe, explain, predict, and, when appropriate, intervene in development.

What are "normative age-graded influences"?
|
The timing of biological events if fairly predictable within a normal range. (Puberty, menopause, etc.)

What are "normative history-graded influences"?
|
Significant environmental events that shape the behavior and attitudes of a group of people born at the same time, or a group of people who experience the same life-changing event at a formative time in their lives.

What is a "non-normative influence"?
|
Unusual events that have major impact on individual lives. (Sudden death of a parent when child is young, winning the lottery...)
