Why tectonic plates move?

-Convection current+Slab pull force

-Mantle material gain heat, expand and becomes less dense, rising

-Spreads out beneath plates causing them to move apart

-Cools and sinks,pulling plates along

-Sinking mantle material heated up once again and cycle repeats itself.

What causes it and how does it affect the plates?

Divergence (O-O)

-2 oceanic plates diverge

-Magma rises to fill the gap, cooling down and solidifying to form seafloor

-Called seafloor spreading

-Newer rock formed nearer to plate boundaries whereas older rock are further from plate boundary

-As magma builds up above surrounding land a mid oceanic ridge is formed.

-Undersea volcanoes form along mid oceanic ridge. If above sea level they form volcanic islands.

What forms when they diverge?

How does it form?
