alternate arrangement, just a really good round leaf with long petiole. hairy panicle of flowers creates 'smoke' like habit.

Betula pendula. European White Birch. Betulaceae. 60'x40', grove, specimen. M/s. crenate triangular leaf with double serration. open, irregular, weeping habit. white bark with black diamonds.

Cornus florida. Flowering Dogwood. Cornaceae. 12'x12', specimen. M/s-psh. Opposite red purple leaf with smooth margins, a little ruffled I think. bud - Hershey kiss shape. fruit- red berries.

Betula nigra 'Heritage', Heritage River Birch, Betulaceae. 50'x40'. M/s, grove, specimen, accent. doubly serrated green leaves with golden yellow fall color. exfoliating bark.

Betula papyrifera, Paper Birch. Betulaceae. 50'x30',M/S, grove, specimen, park tree. alternate leaves with rounded base, prominent tip, pointed bud.

Cornus sanguinea 'Winter Flame', Winter Flame Bloodtwig Dogwood. Cornaceae. 8'x8. M/s-psh, specimen, naturalizing, accent. Opposite leaves, red stems that give its name- winter flame, bloodtwig - and winter interest, sanguinea means blood literally. leaf curls out, with small bud, and distinct black fruit.

Cornus kousa - Kousa Dogwood. Cornaceae. 20'x20', m/s-psh. specimen.


2-4" leaves with smooth margins, very lightly ruffled and small teardrop buds. fruit looks like a gumball I would pay 50 cents for at a quarter machine, red raspberry round.

Cornus sericea, Redosier Dogwood. Cornaceae. 15'x15', m/s-psh, mass, naturalizing. simple opposite round leaf with smooth margins 2-6" long. another red stemmed dogwood but goes green with age. blue fruit that turns white. long pointy buds that look like you could roast a very very tiny marshmallow on them.

Corylus avellana 'Contorta', Contorted Filbert or Henry Lauders Walking Stick. Betulaceae, 8'x10, container, specimen. alternate round leaf with very prominent tip, double serrated with nub bud. contorted habit- everything about this plant is twisty and contorted, very cool, leaf is glossy green and pubescent and curls out, short/no petiole.
