What is velocity?

Velocity is like speed and is how fast something is going. However speed is simply how fast whereas velocity is how fast something is going but it requires a direction.

Like speed. But ...

Name different things on a distance - time graph.

Gradient = speed

⭕Flat sections show where it's stationary.

⭕Straight means a constant speed.

⭕Steeper the line the faster.

⭕Downhill means it's going back towards the starting point.

⭕Curves represent acceleration or deceleration.

⭕Steepening curve means speeding up.

⭕Leveling off curve means slowing down.

Gradient. Flat. Straight. Steeper. Curve. Downwards. Leveling off curve. Steepening curve.

How to calculate sped from a distance - time graph?

Speed= gradient

= vertical ÷ horizontal

What is speed on a graph?

Acceleration formula is...

Acceleration, time taken, change in velocity.

Calculation for weight.

Weight, gravitational field strength, mass.

Gravity on Earth.

10 newtons

In newtons.

Gravity on moon.

8 newtons.

In newtons

What is resultant force?

Resultant force is the overall force on a point or object.

Break the word down.

Resultant forces. Example.

Teapot and gravity.

Calculating force.

Force= mass × acceleration

Force, acceleration, mass

What force slows thing down?

Friction.

Creates heat also.

When does drag increase?

When the speed increases drag will increase.

Terminal velocity

Is dependant on the drag in comparison to an objects weight. For example a skydiver.

Stopping distance.

Stopping distance is thinking distance plus braking distance.

Thinking distance (factors).

1) how fast you are going.

2) how dopey you are this can be dependant on how much alcohol or drugs you have consumed, your tiredness and if you have a careless attitude.

There are 2.

Braking distance (factors).

1) how fast you're going.

2) the quality of your brakes.

3) the qualities of your tyres.

4) how good the grip is (eg. Road surface, weather conditions, tyres).

Calculating work done.

Work done = force × distance.

Gravitational potential energy.

Measures in joules. Erti le positioning a gravitational field. When an object is raised vertically, work done against the force of gravity, and the object gains gravitational potential energy.

Calculating GPE.
