What is a renewable resource |
On that is naturally being replaced that is faster than being used |
|
What is carbon neutral |
One that produces carbon dioxide at the same or lower rate than it is removed from the atmosphere |
|
How do fossil fuel power stations function |
A fossil fuel containing chemical energy is burnt to transform the energy into heat. In the turbine the steam pushes on the blades of the turbine and transforms it into kinetic energy. The kinetic energy is transferred to a generator where it is converted to electrical energy. |
|
What is an advantage of a fossil fuel power station |
Can produce a lot of energy. |
|
What are the disadvantages of fossil fuel power stations |
-is not carbon neutral as it produces a large amount of co2 which is a greenhouse gas. -produces sulphur dioxide- leading to acid rain, increased pH of rivers, can kill vegetation and erode buildings - non renewable |
