Creation, transfer, modification |
|
What is a learning organisation |
An organisation skilled at creating acquiring and transferring knowledge and at modifying its behaviour to reflect new knowledge and insight |
|
|
What is the key to organisational learning |
The key to organisational learning is individual learning and the extent to which individuals in the organisation able to share the knowledge with other individuals in the organisation |
|
|
Identify the barriers to organisational learning |
Constrained thinking
Also referred to as dominant general management logic this is where management thinking is constrained by their preconceived ideas
Management ignorance
This is when management is blissfully ignorant and think that they know the industry Inside out, this arrogance prohibits them and the organisation from learning
A lack of absorptive capacity
This is an organization's ability to learn and apply knowledge, it has four dimensions namely:
1. acquisition of information 2. assimilation of information 3. transformation of knowledge and 4. application of knowledge
limited absorptive capacity can be a barrier to organisational learning |
|
|
What is an absorptive capacity |
1. The acquisition of external information
This is the ability to acquire relevant information from external environment the sooner the organisation obtains information the better the organisations chance of developing some sort of advantage
2. Assimilation of acquire information
This is the ability to analyse and make sense of the required information and ability to share the information and knowledge across organisation
3. Transformation of knowledge
refers to the ability of the organisation to combine new knowledge with existing knowledge and develop new insights
4. Applying new knowledge
this is the real benefit of absorptive capacity in the organisations use transformed knowledge and new insight to improve their business operations and develop new innovations to gain a competitive advantage |
|
|
What is a dynamic capabilities |
It's the capabilities that help the organisation to learn and acquire new capabilities to adapt to environmental changes |
|
|
Why are dynamic capabilities important to organisational learning |
Dynamic capabilities help an organisation to learn new capabilities that are required to adapt to a changing environment Without dynamic capabilities organisations will not be able to adapt to drastic changes in the environment Dynamic capabilities enable organisations to learn and adapt quickly which enables them to deal with change and will be better able to survive and prosper in the long term Hence the only sustainable competitive advantage over the long term is that ability to learn and adapt |
|
|
Discuss the Experiential Learning cycle |
1. Concrete experience
This occurs when a person act in a certain way
2. The process of thinking and reflecting on the experience
This is the next step after the concrete experience
3. Abstract conceptualization
This is when certain ideas or theories are extrapolated from the reflection
4. Active experimentation
This is when ideas or concepts are deliberately tried on other similar settings to see what the results are this leads to the cycle being repeated |
