  • Back

A place where two or more bones meet to connect parts and allow for movement in the body. Also called a joint.

Articulations

Movement of bone surface in the joint capsule including roll, spin, and slide.

Arthrokinematics

The ability to control equilibrium. Two types of balance are static, or still, balance and dynamic, or moving, balance.

Balance

The position of a joint in such a way that motion at one of the joints is accompanied by motion at an adjacent joint

Close kinematic chain

The force applied to overcome resistance

Effort

Push or pull on an object in an attempt to affect motion or shape

Force

The rhythm is an alternating motion of the legs,, and arms resulting in propulsion of the body

Gait

Subdivided into the stance phase and swing phase, the cycle begins when the heel of 1 foot strikes the floor and continues until the same heel strike the floor again.

Gait Cycle

The involuntary movement that occurs between articular surfaces that is separate the actual range of motion of a joint produced by muscles. Joint play is essential component of joint motion and it must occur for normal functioning of the joint.

Joint Play

The study of movement that combines the fields of anatomy, physiology, physics, and geometry and related to them to human movement.

Kinesiology

A solid mass such as crowbar or a person's arm that rotates around a fixed point called a fulcrum. Imitation is produced by a force applied 211 at some distance the fulcrum.

Lever

The movement of bones as opposed to the movement of articular surfaces also known as range of motion.

Osteokinemetics

A position in which the ends of a lamb body part free to move without causing motion at another joint.

Open Kinematic Chain

Simulation of an antagonist muscle to inhibit action in the prime mover.

Reciprocal Inhibition
