Classic was meant to replace the term Halbtrocken, which is harmoniously dry with a max 15g/l of residual sugar. They are single varietals with no reference to a single vineyard. Minimum alcohol is 12% (Mosel 11.5%)

Selection was meant to replace the term Trocken, Superior dry with a max of 9g/l of residual sugar. These are single variety coming from a single vineyard. Must weight should be equivalent Auslese and no more the 60hl/ha

Neither may be released until September 1st of the year following harvest.

In 1775, the courier annually sent to Fulda to receive official permission for the start of the grape harvest was delayed by several weeks. By the time he returned to Johannisberg, the grapes were infested with noble rot. Nevertheless, the courageous cellarmaster had the rotten grapes harvested and vinified, thereby producing a new style of ?wine – “Spätlese” – which thereafter became standard at Johannisberg.
