GCF

the largest value that divides exactly into 2 (or more) numbers

LCM

The least of the common multiples between two (or more) numbers

Multiples vs Factors

...

How to find LCM

List Multiples

Ex:

6: 6, 12, 18, 24 30 36

4: 4, 8, 12

LCM : 12

•List Multiples (Shortcut)

-List the factors of the the bigger number

-Check to see if the factors are divisible by the smaller number

-The first one to divide evenly is the LCM

•Prime Factorization

-Circle unique factors

-Check if the numbers have common factors, if they do circle the one with the largest exponent

Multiply unique factors and common factors with the greater exponent in order to get the LCM

When you have larger numbers use prime factorization

When you have smaller numbers list out multiples

Prime factorization

A number written as the product of its prime factors

Prime number

A number divisible only by 1 and itself

How to find the prime factorization

•Factor tree

-Break down numbers into factors

-Circle the prime numbers

-List out the circled prime numbers

-If number are repeated rewrite them as exponents

Finding GCF

•Listing Factors

•Prime Factorization

-Do not simplify the prime factorization into exponents

-Look to see what factors the numbers have in common

-Multiply the common factors
