- hyperventilation post intubation

When to commence insulin

1 hr after fluids

0.05 - 0.1

How to guide treatment

Corrected sodium (in 4 - 8 hours)


- fall >5 = too much fluid - reduce by 1ml/kg/hr


- rise >5 = too little fluid- increase by 1ml/kg/hr



Should see 3 - 5 increase in 12 hours
