Material condition: X-Ray

This condition of readiness provides the least amount of protection. Fittings marked are to be closed during condition X-ray. All other may be open.

Material condition: Yoke

Provides greater amount of protection. Fittings marked X or Y are to be closed during condition Yoke. All other may be open.

Material condition: Zebra

Provides maximum protection. All fittings marked X, Y and Z are to be closed during condition Zebra (normally a GQ setting). Requires permission for use.

Material condition: X (Circle X-Ray)

Fittings may be opened without permission during condition X-Ray, but must be closed immediately after use.

Material Condition: Y (Circle Yoke)

Fittings may be opened without permission during condition Yoke, but must be closed immediately after use.

Material Condition: Z (Circle Zebra)

Fittings may be opened without permission during condition Zebra, but must be closed immediately after use.

Material Condition: Z (Dog Zebra)

Fittings marked Dog Zebra must be closed during condition Zebra to prevent light from escaping outside the ship.

Material Condition W (Circle William)

Fittings marked Circle William are normally open but must be closed as a defense against nuclear, biological or chemical attack.

What are the locations of Main Drainage?

Two firemain-actuated eductors

One in AMR

One MMR

Both on the Port side.

Where are the locations of secondary drainage?

Hazmat locker

UCHS Room

Bowthruster

Pump Room

Define and describe characteristics of the ESP.

Electric Submersible Pump

440VAC

140 Gpm at 70 ft

180 Gpm at 50 ft

For dewatering fresh or salt water.

2 1/2 discharge hose is needed

Can be used with another ESP in tandem

Nylon handling line to lower.

Describe and define the Firemain system.

Horizontal loop

Fire pumps 250 gpm at 125 psi

#1: Pump Room

#2: AMR

#3: MMR

Where are the Firemain segregation Zebra valves?

PORT Laundry Room

STBD Pipe Room

Where are the overhead seawater sprinklers and what temp do they actuate?

EOD 160 F

Small Arms Magazine 160 F

Berthing Sprinklers 175 F

Aft Supply Storeroom (fire station actuated)

What is AFFF?

Aqueous Film Forming Foam

Smothers fire

Primary agent for Class Bravo

Describe the characteristics of an AFFF canister.

Used with a 95 Gpm fire station with in-line educator.

5 gallons (concentrate)

94% seawater + 6% AFFF Concentrate = AFFF finished product (foam)

Where are the AFFF Station located and what do they supply?

PORT - 50 gallons (concentrate)

Supplies AFFF to MMR AFFF hose reel

3 in-line eductors

STBD - 250 gallons (concentrate)

Supplies AFFF to AMR AFFF hose reel, AMR and MMR Bilge sprinklers

5 in-line eductors

Where are the AMR AFFF bilge sprinkler actuators?

1. CCS

2. Outside the main access

3. Outside the escape scuttle

4. Inside the space right next to the main ladder underneath AFFF hose reel

5. SOPV (Solenoid Operated Pilot Valve) on the mess decks, FWD STBD corner

Where are the locations for the MMR bilge sprinkler actuators?

1. CCS

2. Outside the main access

3. Outside the escape scuttle

4. Inside the space right next to the main ladder underneath AFFF hose reel

5. SOPV (Solenoid Operated Pilot Valve) on the mess decks, directly across the scullery.

What are Counter Measure Wash Downs used for?

For the cleaning of all weather decks and super structures to produce a runoff for removal of CBR contaminating material.

Describe the characteristics of the CO2 fire extinguisher.

15 lbs

Range of 4-6 ft from tip of horn

For class Charlie and Alpha

Must be ground to the deck

Describe the characteristics of the AFFF fire extinguisher.

27 lbs of finished AFFF

Range of 15 ft, decreases during discharge

For Class Bravo, but can be used for Alpha

Describe the characteristics of the PKP fire extinguisher.

Potassium Bicarbonate

18 lbs bottle

Range of 19 ft with minimum discharge of 10 sec

For Class Bravo

For Class Charlie (last resort because its corrosive)

Describe the characteristics of the HALON 1301 System.

Fixed total flooding fire extinguishing system which is actuated pneumatically by manually operated carbon dioxide cylinders.

Pressurized by Nitrogen

Class Bravo

5 lb CO2 actuated

Allow 15 min soak time prior to entering space.

Toxic

What spaces have HALON System and what are the time delays?

MMR (60 sec +/- 10 sec--manned space)

-can be actuated outside CCS or in the space.

AMR (60 sec +/- 10 sec--manned space)

-can be actuated on the mess decks (AFT) or in the space.

HAZMAT (30 sec +/- 5 sec-- unmanned space)

- can be actuated outside the space.

Describe the characteristics of the APC?

Aqueous Potassium Carbonate

Combines with the hot cooking oil surface to form a combustion-resistant soap layer, thereby cutting off the grease from its oxygen source

-Pressurized with Nitrogen

-spring tension cable keeps System inactive

-Fusible link melts at 360 F

Describe a fire station and it's components.

95 Gpm
