Arraignment
the intial "coming before" the judge or judicial officer at which time the juvenile is informed of the charges pending of his or her constitutional rights; a plea is entered; a trail date is set, if necessary; and bail is determined if needed.
Arrest
the deprivation of a persons freedom by legal authority;the apprehension of the juvenile by the police the physical seasing of the person by the authorities for the purpose of making a criminal charge
Bootstrapping
the process whereby a status offender id ordered to follow certain conditions by the court(e.g. attend school, ad hear to a curfew, and obey the commands of the parents.) and the youth is redefined as a deliquescent if he or she violates the court order. the youths new status as a delinquient then allows the court to use detention as a response to violations of the courts order
Case Conference
a meeting attended by an intake officer, the juvenile, and the juveniles parents that is designed to collect additional information to aid the intake officer and screening a case
detention hearing
a hearing in front of a judicial officer that is required after the juvenile has been detained or in order to get a juvenile detained. at this hearing, the juvenile has the right to be present, have his or her parents or significant adult present, be informed of the charges, have his or her legal rights explained, make a plea, have a trail date set, and request bond.(were permissible)

Intake
the procces of introducing youths who come to the police and courts attention into the juvenile justice system and determing how far they go into the system.
Intake screening
the procces of determining wether youths should be diverted from the juvenile system or refered for formal or informal service. screening criteria usualy includes serious offense, family history prior deleqincey prior to court conduct legal mandates regarding diversion, attitude, age, school performance, parental, employment history, and restition issues. unfortunaltly screening criteria may also include, despite thier inappropriatness race, gender, and socio economic status.
Legal sufficiency
the rqirement that alleged criminal offense and the alleged perpritrator meets certain criteria before the alleged perpritrator can be charged with a criminal act. a prosecuting attourney, distric att, or states att, asses the criminal charge and the characteristics of the alleged perprtraitor to ensure that the criteria are met.
Petition
the request for formal court action that contains the written acusation against the juvenile, spcifies the criminal or delequint charges being made, and is properly verified as to age and venue by the complainent( the person briging the charge)
Plea
the juveniles formal response to criminal charges.
Plea Bargin
an agreement between a procecuting attourny and a juvenile, usualy through the juveniles attourney, according to wich the juvenile admits to a lesser charge in exchaange for the reduction of the charge or admits to some charges in exchange for the dissmisial of other charges.
