What are the three phases of the CPNE?
Planning Phase
Implementation Phase Evaluation Phase |
What happens in the Planning Phase?
Receive patient assignment, review all available records including flow sheets and MARs, get introduced to the patients nurse, ask questions, **WRITE A NURSING CARE PLAN**
This is also when you write out your Grid with your Critical elements on it |
Implementation Phase
the time frame when you administer care to the assigned patient according to the assigned critical elements, care plan and the grid
PCS
Patient Care Situation
Consists of overriding, required and selected areas of care, for a total of 5 to 6 Areas of Care for each PCS |
CA
Clinical Associate--
Coordinates and supervises the CPNE Orients to hospital specific policies and simulation lab Available to discuss concerns and offer support Answers questions about the examination process Consults with CE Reviews and verifies any failure with the CE Maintains security and integrity of CPNE. |
CE
Clinical Evaluator--Objective observer and patient advocate
Provides written assignment at the beginning of each PCS Provides orientation to PCS and equipment to be used during PCS Verifies patient condition and assigns areas of care Verifies orders of medications to be administered during PCS Silent observer May participate in positioning if requested to do so and it doesn't interfere with observation May hold pill cups Answers questions of non teaching nature regarding patient assignment or patient care unit Documents performance of critical elements in all areas |

Time Frames for Completion of Each Phase
2 1/2 hours is allowed for the completion of each PCS. Normal patient care is anticipated to take less than 1 1/2 hours for each patient (implementation phase), the balance of time should be spent between planning and evaluation phase.
