Romantic movement
*An artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century.
* In most areas was at its peak in the approximate period from 1800 to 1850.
*Some influences were from the French revolution:
-Diderot and Roussea who said "man is born free but everywhere he is in chains"
Blake's early life
William Blake (1757 - 1827)
*Born in Soho, London, where he lived most of his life
*Son to a hosier and his wife, both Dissenters.
*Blake's early ambitions lay not with poetry but with painting
*At the age of 14, after attending drawing school, he was apprenticed to James Basire, engraver.
Blakes later life
*Blake lived in London for a lot of his adult life.
*in 1784 he started up a printing press company however this didnt last long
* Blake spent most of his life as an engraver and an ilustrator
*He married his wife Catherine in 1782
* His book songs of innocence was published in 1789 soon to be followed by songs of experience
