Sheila - Morality and Responsibility
"But These Girls Aren't Cheap Labour, they're people"
Lingual - Key point in Sheila's acceptance of responsibility. Her immaturity has become irrelevant; instead of muttering, she now speaks with confidence in knowing these workers are 'human beings'. She has accepted what her father chose to be ignorant upon; her morality has greatened with her maturity
Context - Patriachal society; Socialism V Capitalism + Priestely's aims.
Inspector - Morality and Responsibility
"And if man will never learn, they will learn in fire and blood and anguish"
Lingual - Men learning in 'Fire', 'blood' and 'anguish' is the Inspector reflecting on the ignorance of the current generation, and that if they do not learn they will learn in their suffering. Juxtaposing Mr Birling stating "All this talk of a war coming; nonsense".
Structural - Repetition of 'and', emphasising how continous the cycle of sufferring is.
Context - Dramatic Irony, World War One and Two; post WW1 and WW2, immense change occurred in society/Social Gap lessens
Arthur Birling - Morality and Responsibility
"I've got to cover this up, as soon as I can"
Lingual - Mr Birling, upon the lasting impression the inspector left, has gained some form of remorse over his role in the play; and has surrcome to the understanding of how it may affect his position in society - A Selfish (Slight) acceptance of responsibility, which he rather implies.
Repetition of the personal pronoun "I"; focusing on his own reputation, acting off his own accord to remove the threat only he faces. Juxtaposes to "A man...has to look after his family".
Context - Capitalism and it's selfish and Ignorant connotations.
