-Put client in upright sitting position -Position supplies on table w/ barrier, glove up *Towel over chest -Moisten brush, put on paste -Clean all surfaces of mouth and tongue for 2 minutes -Help rinse mouth, offer mouthwash -Let them spit in emesis basin -Dry/wipe mouth & remove towel -Lower bed -Maintain clean technique, dispose of linens, clean and replace equipment, remove gloves, reposition HOB |

Mouth Care for a Comatose Client

Equipment: Gloves, emesis basin, lubricant, glass of water, toothettes, mouthwash solution, towels (NO toothpaste)
-Turn client to side facing you (head slightly forward) -Cover pillow and chest with towel -Gloves -Place emesis basin under chin -Pull on chin, clean mouth w/ toothettes in rolling motion using mouthwash (TALK to client!) -Used toothettes in basin, rinse mouth with watered toothettes -Wipe mouth w/ towel, apply lubricant to lips -Remove gloves *Don't forget call light |

Denture Care for a Dependent Client

Equipment: Dentures, denture cup, gloves, washcloth, towel, emesis basin, toothpaste/denture cleaner, denture tablet
-Sit client upright to remove dentures, towel across chest (no fingers bet. teeth) -Take out upper then lower denture, put in basin -Put on BR countertop w/ barrier -Put washcloth in sink, fill with cold water -Clean denture cup -Brush dentures on all surfaces, place back in denture cup w/ cool water and denture tablet -Return denture cup, clean equipment |

Bed Bath (Face, Arm, Hand, Underarm)

Equipment: bath basin, bath blanket, bath towels, 6+ washcloths, gloves, new gown for client, soap, bath thermometer, lotion, barrier, (bag for dirty linens?)
*Offer client use of bedpan -Raise rail on opposite side, raise bed -Cover w/ bath blanket, fold top linens to foot of bed -Remove gown w/o exposing -Test water temp, put on gloves -Towel on chest, make mitt, wash each eye twice w/o soup from inner to outer corner -Wash face/neck/ears, dry -Towel under arm (soak hands?) -Wash w/ soap arm/hand/pit, then rinse -Dry with towel under arm, apply lotion to arm/hand -Take off gloves -Help put on new gown, pull up linens, take off bath blanket -Lower bed, clean equipment |
