Cancer

Sometimes cell differentiation or division goes wrong and cancerous cells are produced. These cells can divide rapidly by mitosis and cause a lump or tumour

Two types of tumours

Malignant and benign

Malignant Tumour

Causes cancer, divide rapidly and grow out of control.



Can spread from one part of the body to another and form a second cancer (metastasis)

Benign

Non-cancerous tumour



Do not spread to other parts, contained within a membrane.

Signs of cancer

Lump formed by a tumour, unexplained bleeding, long term cough, loss of weight

Screening

How they look for cancer, feel for a bump or take blood tests, urine tests and x-rays. Also they can use monoclonal antibodies
