Biological Approach

The biological approach attempts to explain behaviour in terms of different biological processes, including genes, hormones, neurotransmitters, etc.

Genotype

The genotype is a person's unique genetic make-up that is coded in their chromosomes and fixed at conception.

Phenotype

The phenotype is the expression of a person's genetic make-up (genotype) that can be influenced by the environment.

Heredity

Heredity is a term that refers to traits and features that are inherited from one's parents and ancestors. At birth a person inherits 50% of each parent's genetic material (genes) that are passed along through the chromosomes found in the DNA .

Neurotransmitters

Chemicals that are released in order to deliver electrical messages throught your brain. And underactivity or over activity of these neurotransmitters are said to effect your behaviour and may also cause many mental health disorders.

what are the 4 features in the biological approach that influence behaviours?

1. genetic factors

2. evolution

3. neurons/nervous system

4. neurochemistry
